It's like putting out the Geiers with Vasoline, or something like that.

Geiers in the Vasoline?

NM - you're killing me with the Bowie reference - Catpeople was a monumental time in my life as a youngish boy. let's just say it's a good thing that dvd's and the pause button weren't around for that movie. And re: STP - I hear that lupron cures heroin addiction.

joseph - ain't archiving grand?

Nice to see you're not calling them the "Greirs" anymore, B.C. You fumble on names a lot...

However David Geier's byline was CHANGED by an editor who erased the words "graduate student," which causes the confusion over his affiliation with the university. He is NOT on the faculty...never was...and this study was independent...and NOT affiliated with the university. Dr. and Mr. Geier never intended the byline as it ran. I'm sure it got pulled from PubMed so corrections could be made.

Contrary to what Kathleen Seidel stated after having a conversation with a professor in that department, David Geier is still enrolled as a graduate student there, despite having taken the last term off from classes.

Not quite the sinister picture most of you were hoping was true.

I'm wondering if you make any of your wonderful videos about brain structure/function, or anything else. I've seen your other pages on RNA. How exactly are you making these videos anyways?

Yes, erik, it wasn't until someone told me that their name rhymes with liar did I get it right.

Someone on another board asked why his email addy wasn't *@gwu.edu -- that's a good question.

Someone else pointed out that it's easy to say you're a student by signing up for a class here or there even if it's in a completely different department than the one of which s/he claims to be a student.

You say an editor screwed them. Hmmmm. Where is the public letter of apology by said editor? Why isn't the paper in the journal with an amendment? Why aren't the other papers from 2005, or 2004 written up with the same byline?

Someone was either incompetent or dishonest here. If it was an editor then they should have published the paper and an apology. But that won't happen, and it's not even the real point.

Simply because some fool takes classes at a school doesn't earn them the right to use that affiliation in published work. There are significant strings attached to that claim of affiliation. If you're not getting that point then further discussion is useless.

Further, it is my sincere hope that even if you don't cease to use Lupron "therapy" on your child, that someone else who is fence-sitting, but less extreme, will see the complete absence of science backing this insane theory, and the extreme "iffy-ness" of some of the players, as reasons not to pursue it. Look - a ton of chelation and biomed advocates are looking at you as extreme and a bit dangerous, even by their standards. Standing alone should be a real wake up call to verify that what one is doing is something that one can either be proud of or feel is worthwhile in 5 or 50 years from now.

rpeterson- yeah, I'm getting back into papers for the next few episodes. The problem is that so many of these papers are so bad, that I find myself simply mocking the people who conduct the work. At that point, a cartoon is as good as a detailed analysis of the paper.

How I make them? Depends. I have to borrow a DV camera if I want to go that route. I borrow a microphone sometimes too. I use basic mac software - iMovieHD, Garage Band, and a little screen capture program called Snapz Pro X. I put all the files in mpeg4 encoded avi format for max compatibility. I also upload to google video which is a pretty nice service.

It all takes a bunch of time and I'm not sure I can/want to keep this up. I might choose to close this down and "guest blog" or join a group blog at some point. A plus is that some of the hate mail I get sent directly to me is quite humorous.

Erik, it's an honest mistake. Maybe he confused David Allen Grier with David Allen Geier

Hey, speaking of comedians, why can't little David speak for himself? I mean his reputation is at stake here you would think he would have an official statement to make rather than depend on a third party videographer.

How do we know you have your facts straight or that you are even relaying his words correctly. Can you tape a little video clip of him saying that the journal screwed up?

not quite DA Grier, but this is what I was thinking...

a portrait?

sweet baseball cap

the glasses is a new look

what I fear is going on during the Lupron injection

Of course, Diva has the real Nerwin.

clone3g, when you say "honest", I don't think that the intended recipient can understand that word. I might have to get a picture to help translate it. Give me a bit of time.

b.c. Gee, a group blog that focuses on the science behind autism where readers are invited to post their own stories...naah, you'll never find anything like that out there.

Trouble is there really is an Autism Reserch Unit at Sunderland University but that does not make it any less bogus does it?

Many a good University promotes bad science.
